Turkish Daylights: Find your bill

I just got home and stumbled upon a neatly piled collection of electricity bills next to the front door of my building. That’s how bills work here.

They are not posted in an envelope nor delivered to your home or even put in a mail box. They are just left outside your building or sometimes in the hall way and if you are lucky enough and the wind hasn’t blown them away, you may stumble upon them eventually. If you are not, well, then you will notice you haven’t paid your bill when your electricity is cut off at some point.

  1. I remember running down the street trying to retrieve our bill when a wintry gust caught it and tossed it down the street. Oh happy days! 🙂

  2. Yep, we’re trying to find out where our bill may have ended up. It’s not among the ones in the picture. Anyway, I’m reading your book just now. I’m still at the very beginning (Chapter 4) but I’m glad there’s a Colombian included; made me smile.
