Turkish Clock Towers

09/11/2014

Clock towers seem to be a common sight in many parts of the globe. Throughout my Turkey Travels I came across various different models.

The most famous Turkish clock tower is the one in Izmir which is the city’s symbol and a characteristic attraction. During my first weeks in Izmir, I was told that as a rite of initiation every new inhabitant has to drink from the clock tower’s well to become an İzmirli, a part of the city. So that’s what I did and that’s how part of my heart merged with beautiful Izmir, although I think it happened well before that.
